There's a new engine in the Circle Fire Department bay.
In September, Fire Chief Chad Satcher and Firefighter Landon Cale Bodie were killed when a tree fell onto their engine as they were responding to a call during Hurricane Helene.
The South Carolina Forestry Commission got the fire truck from a federal surplus program.
“We’re able to get surplus equipment from the military that they no longer need at a much reduced price for department, in this case to make things better for them, We’re covering the cost for everything. So they’re getting the truck for free from us,” Assistant Law Enforcement Chief with South Carolina Forestry Commission Johnathan Calore told WIS.
“Hopefully, by us being able to provide this truck to them, it’s helping that healing process, get things back to a sort of a sense of normal for them."
Satcher, who served the community for 35 years, died alongside Bodie, who just graduated from Blythewood High School.
Bodie and Satcher were always the first ones to the fire station and bonded over their love of serving others, Bodie’s grandfather said.
